Host and Support Congregations
Three to four times a year, for one week at a time, hosts provide overnight shelter, meals and hospitality for up to 4 families (approximately 14 people) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Support congregations assist by helping provide the meals and volunteers.
Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the program, cooking and serving meals and playing with and tutoring the children. Some stay overnight with the families. Volunteers interact with guests, offering them respect and compassion.
Day Center
Each day, our guests are transported to the Day Center, where the Network Director’s office is located. The center provides a homelike atmosphere for the guests during the day, and offers an address and phone number while they are in the program. Many of our guests are employed and go to work, and school children go to school. Guests work with the Director to find employment, child care, housing, and overcome whatever obstacles they may have.
Transportation
Family Promise supplies a van and volunteer driver to transport guests to and from the host congregation, day center, jobs, and schools. It also provides transportation to employment interviews, housing searches, and appointments with doctors and social service agencies.
Fundraising
Family Promise is fully financed through donations, grants, and fundraising. Congregations also take a financial role in support of Family Promise. The Network is a cost-efficient, effective and replicable community response to family homelessness. Because we make use of existing community resources, we can function in a most economical way bringing the community together for the cause. Family Promise is self-supporting and funding is critical to operation. Family Promise is seeking donations (material and monetary), grants, and fundraising opportunities.
